The Leak - Week 8: Up High

So about a month and a half ago Mickey Factz started a weekly series titled The Leak on his myspace page. Every Tuesday night he uploads a new song to his page's playlist that would be available for free download to his avid listeners, supporters, haters, and so forth for ONE WEEK ONLY. After that week is up a new track goes up, leaving you to be left scouring the web for that exclusive that you may never be able to attain again. Anyhow recently I've been reprimanded for my slacking on not notifying our following on the GFCnewyork blog of this here Leak. And for that I greatly apologize. So to kick things off for this week is the song "Up High." Download and enjoy. Don't forget feedback is always greatly appreciated, so leave him a comment.

I'll be sure to upload the previous tracks here soon, for those of you that missed out on them due to my negligence. So stay tuned.

Another Major Blow to Organized Crime

"NEW YORK - The Gambinos were once a ruthless crime family whose empire stretched across the city and whose boss was a bona fide local celebrity, strutting around town in $2,000 suits and beating case after case.
Although their mystique faded over the years amid a series of convictions and damaging testimony from turncoat mobsters, they still maintained an intimidating presence in the underworld.
But the remnants of the once-fabled Gambinos had their knees taken out from under them Thursday."

Just Me and My Bitch

So yesterday night was the Grammy's and everyone came decked out in their finest. But the most provocative attire of the evening was the most casual. Kelis and beau, Nasir Jones came adorned in their "Nigger" treatments:

Best Rap Album nominee Nas ruffled a few feathers at the 50th annual Grammy Awards when he came backstage with wife Kelis to promote his album N*gger, due in April.

The word was emblazoned in silver across his black T-shirt. “This album is for all the so-called n*ggerss in the world (who are) being mistreated,” the rapper said.

Why bother courting the n-word controversy in the first place? “We felt like shaking it up with something real,” he said. “To open up some awareness. Of course, people are going to be getting a little crazy about it. Hip-hop has been catching a lot of flak. We use the word in our music. For the last year, it’s just been really crazy with the word. As rappers are getting all the blame, I thought I’d talke about it and express myself.”

Kelis, also sporting the word on her top, said, “The word is not important. Whether we say it or not, we still get treated like one.

Your thoughts.”

Go check out the new Mickey Factz feature story in the new online issue of Scheme Magazine.

Go Giants

GFCnewyork would like to congratulate the New York Giants for reinforcing one of our mottos, "Make It Happen" in their victory towards becoming NFL Champions. The underdogs going into SuperBowl XLII against the undefeated New England Patriots, showed us what strong will and determination coupled with a blessed destiny will manifest. Final stats were 17 - 14, Giants over the Patriots at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale Arizona.

Hint

I'm sure this isn't nothing purposely done, because who isn't on a Mac these days. But with the rumors circulating about a digital label in the midst between Apple & Mr. Shawn Carter, could this be subliminal humor.

"Nights on, daytime, lights on, hell yeah I'm frontin' but you love it, though" - Show You How, Jay-Z

Adidas Original Denim by Diesel

Adidas Original and Diesel come together to collaborate on a denim collection. The collection will be released this Spring season. Check out the pics.

"The denim comes both washed and raw in black and indigo colors, some washed pieces also with further customization. The Adidas logo appears on the back tag, the side, the bottom of the denim and also some rivets have been replaced with the Adidas logo. All in all a pretty complete denim line with rather subtle branding. The Diesel logo appears on the front pocket as usual. On one side we prefer this collaboration over what Puma did with Evisu, simply because the collection is more subtle and concentrates on the denim and the washes rather than the branding. On the other side, the question is, if people want denim with Adidas branding? It's not exactly a sign of quality for denim. We will see, once they land in store. "

Mickey Factz "Picked Up The Bass" @ Hiro Ballroom

Those who came through this past Tuesday, Jan 22nd at Hiro Ballroom for the Live Mechanics/Complex/United Tradeshow event were in for a treat when Mickey Factz stepped on the stage. For those who hadn't yet experienced him in the flesh; left convinced of his talent and star appeal. His set consisted of Nakim doing the Supra Stomp (School Daze flow), a remix intro of "I Like Your Supras," the hit off of Heaven's Fallout, "Talk Yo Ish," and two new singles, "Pick Up The Bass" and "Rockin N Rollin." Holding down the 1s and 2s on Mickey Factz' set was Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids. Other performers holding it down that night were Kid Cudi, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Game Rebellion. Mickey's performance footage will be coming soon, for now here are some pictures from that night's festivities and visit GAK City to view their coverage of the event.

We Shall Not Live To Die, But Die To Live

Today, we celebrate the life of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He should be an inspiration to us all. Besides doing a great deal for equality and race relations, how many people can actually die living their dream. For that you'll always be remembered.

"Now i could let these dream killers kill my self esteem or i could use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams " - Last Call, Kanye West

Aftathoughts Vol. 1

Some may consider this blasphemy but sticks and stones won't break my bones, so cast away...This guy Afta-1 may be the new age Dilla. Reincarnated astral soundwaves (aka the music a shooting star would create, as it soars through the sky), boom-bap ciphers between heavenly gods, and within their lies the belief, the emotion, the metaphysics of the soul. Basically some deep shit to zone out too without having to get 'lifted,' nah mean. His newly released Aftathoughts Vol. 1 is an instrumental album, so intelligently done and surreal that it's cruising music for 2050 A.D...while in your spacecraft. Go now and support astronomically good music, before it becomes a sanctioned privilege.

It's a New Year...Go Get Tested

So I'm on my myspace page, and I see my my dude Fausto changed his default pic. It looked like some sort of legal document, so I automatically assumed it was his Articles of Incorporation because if any of you know Fausto he discovers a new way to stunt every week. Anyhow, I click on the image and come to find out he posted the documentation to his AIDS/HIV results. Some of you may be shocked by this, but myself I found it inspiring. It's a new year and before prosperity and fame can result, your health must be in order. I strongly recommend out of love for yourself that everyone makes it a duty of theirs to go get tested. When you know you're healthy, you're that much closer to success and happiness, that's what you call La Vie.

P.S. You can't cheat this test. Practicing safe sex is the key to passing. So don't forget to wrap it up.

I found out today the the Bronx is the number one most infected Boro out of Queens - Manhattan and Brooklyn, in that same order bronx got the most HIV / AIDS and herpes etc etc then Queens then Manhattan then Brooklyn..

Please people lets protect our self for us and the safety of others and our families that love us.

iIdid it to show people if i can do it, so can you!
i was nervous but im glad i went. im negative of all type of infections such as
herpes - Gonorrhea - Chlamydia - Syphilis.. etc plus im HIV - AIDS NEGATIVE

this is a private matter but i made it public for PEOPLE to see that it only takes 30mins to get your results and you can help protect the world... im doing this to show the world we all as humans & have a responsibly to protect the Earth and the people in it!

I hope no one gets offended by this message
and thank you for reading this if i reached one person then i did a good job.

If any one have any question about any of this please don't hesitate to ask me.. i can provide places to get a check up for free if needed.

I LOVE YOU ALL!
ONE LOVE!

Video: CRS - US Placers (Directed by Vashtie Kola)

NYC's Downtown Sweetheart, Vashtie Kola, has recently debuted her latest project. A video for CRS' "US Placers." The track that was on the Kanye West "Can't Tell Me Nothing" mixtape was the sleeping giant song of the summer. With ill verses by Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West & Pharrell over a Thom Yorke sample, it was only right for a video to be done for the song. And who more deserving to do it then, Vashtie Kola:

“Here’s the latest video I directed. I wasn’t commissioned to do it, so I spent my own dough to make it. I wanted to make a video for this song because I was obsessed with both the original Thom Yorke version and the Kanye West Mixtape version. It was a lot of fun to make. Most of the clothing is mine, like little Pharrell’s whole wardrobe. The props are mine, like the Brooklyn Machine Works bike and the Supreme “Last Supper” decks. That’s actually Plain Pat in the video, Kanye’s A&R.”
This is how true artist work. By taking the initiative because of love for the craft. A true kindred New Yorker at work here. Kudos. Watch the video below and check out behind the scene shots from the video shoot by clicking HERE.

Here's another video for those who've been living under a rock in New York and don't know who Vashtie Kola is...lol

Supra NS

"This January, Supra will drop a late fall line of “Non Skate” sneakers. This Skytop is the first of its kind in the “NS” line and is constructed using more high-end materials, meaning better leathers and improved construction. These crispy whites also utilize a cup sole, not the usual vulk sole that were present on Muska’s previous kicks. While the regular in-line Skytops are more skate-friendly, consider these your go-to for standing around and being cooler than everyone else. Start 08 off strong."

Recently Mickey Factz being the tastemaker that he is, got interviewed on brand building agency, BPMW's blog, We Are the Market. Read the interview HERE, as they question him on the new sound arousing in his music, it's influence on his style, and more.
