Video: CRS - US Placers (Directed by Vashtie Kola)

NYC's Downtown Sweetheart, Vashtie Kola, has recently debuted her latest project. A video for CRS' "US Placers." The track that was on the Kanye West "Can't Tell Me Nothing" mixtape was the sleeping giant song of the summer. With ill verses by Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West & Pharrell over a Thom Yorke sample, it was only right for a video to be done for the song. And who more deserving to do it then, Vashtie Kola:

“Here’s the latest video I directed. I wasn’t commissioned to do it, so I spent my own dough to make it. I wanted to make a video for this song because I was obsessed with both the original Thom Yorke version and the Kanye West Mixtape version. It was a lot of fun to make. Most of the clothing is mine, like little Pharrell’s whole wardrobe. The props are mine, like the Brooklyn Machine Works bike and the Supreme “Last Supper” decks. That’s actually Plain Pat in the video, Kanye’s A&R.”
This is how true artist work. By taking the initiative because of love for the craft. A true kindred New Yorker at work here. Kudos. Watch the video below and check out behind the scene shots from the video shoot by clicking HERE.

Here's another video for those who've been living under a rock in New York and don't know who Vashtie Kola

Supra NS

"This January, Supra will drop a late fall line of “Non Skate” sneakers. This Skytop is the first of its kind in the “NS” line and is constructed using more high-end materials, meaning better leathers and improved construction. These crispy whites also utilize a cup sole, not the usual vulk sole that were present on Muska’s previous kicks. While the regular in-line Skytops are more skate-friendly, consider these your go-to for standing around and being cooler than everyone else. Start 08 off strong."

And Sometimes, Even Fashion Lets Me Down...

Some things I can forgive people for; I can forgive who ever had the bright idea to give L.C. a show after Laguna Beach . I can forgive a friend for borrowing, then staining a Marc Jacobs dress. I can even forgive Kim Kardashian for making a sex-tape with former beau Ray-J (because if I don't, who will?), but I cannot, will not, and refuse to forgive Vibe for giving Beyoncé the V-style award.

You look at this her and think "are they kidding?!" I mean, its often as if this woman goes out of her way to make herself look ridiculous. Can anybody tell me the last time that she's left her house with an outfit that had a cohesive theme from head to toe? No? I didn't think so. She is probably the only woman who can spend $100,000 on an ensemble (the Balenciaga robot leggings and matching top), and still look trashy. Also, her weave? And those allged "curves" (which by her own admission are a result of a diet heavily reliant upon Popeye's, and hips which even she has admitted are "wide") could be better concealed 99.9% of the time.

My interest in Beyoncé was for me, much like a childhood crush-- no, a drunken hook-up; short lived, entertaining for the time, but no chance of anything real developing in the future. However, Rihanna is quite the little fashionista. She's gorgeous, and truly curvy-- not fat, thick or plump! And she's the girl who launched a thousand haircuts. Okay, okay, so her's is a weave too, but a good one. And her style transformation has made her into the "it" girl du jour. She makes me feel good about being tall and curvy. Granted, I'm 5'11", and she's 5'9", but you know what I mean. Basically, if I was a guy, I' d be totally into her. No wonder Beyoncé hates her. Recount, please?

Pole-ite Girls

I bet we wouldn't mind a fare hike, if we were being serviced like this. Damn, these girls are getting it poppin'...only if they were as good lookin' as their moves, but I digress. For more info on this video, click HERE

"With three floors of all things Apple...The top floor will feature a 46-foot Genius Bar. It will also be home to our exciting new Open Labs and Pro Labs – free, in-depth training sessions on professional creative photo, video and music applications."

I wonder what the hours of operations for the store will be...Imagine drunk clubgoers trying to operate a MacBook Pro at 3AM. It'll be comedy in the making.

Video: Wyclef Jean - Fast Car

This song is brilliant

And Sometimes, American Fashion Is Quite Enough...

I simply adore European fashion! And when I say "European fashion," I assure you that I don't mean Chanel or Cavalli. I mean the wild, hipster brands that boutiques like (my fave) Seven on Mercer carry. One of those labels is Bernhard Willhelm; their crazy colors and wild silhouettes are always well executed and never blasé or cliché. But their Spring/ Summer 2008 collections for both men and women, straddle the line between crimes against fashion and crimes against humanity! Frankly, no man or woman should be given license to leave their home dressed like this, and we all know that some fashion lemming who "wants to be a non-conformist just like everybody else" is bound to do so. I mean, don't get me wrong, from an artistic standpoint, its great; very high-concept pieces, and styled differently (and perhaps with another model) it'd be visually enchanting. Although their men's look book is far too crazy for me to even lend justification to, a few pieces in the women's can be salvaged, I suppose.

Not That I Condone Drug Use...

Alright, well let me be the first to say that there's nothing I detest more than recreational drug use (well, except swagger jacking, and faux Louis bags.) However, I love being controversial-- and Balenciaga. But then again, what girl doesn't, right? So I will definitely be picking up one of the re-issued MTTM tees which don the phrase "my girls rock Balenciaga and smoke mad marijuana." Married To The Mob is a pretty dope label, although their entire shtick is pretty ironic; their whole crew is made up of WASPy looking white girls, and yet they have street cred for days.

No One's Done It Right @ Katra

For all those that didn't make it out to Katra this past Tuesday night, you missed a good New York musical show for a good cause. No One's Done It Right set the stage for three new artists to showcase their pure talent. The place was packed, the music was pumping and the stars of the night were shining. Our own, Jade, won the hearts of those in attendance as she performed such gems as "Set Me Free," "Drown Me Out" and others. Please believe, the voice is golden.
Then came Theolonious Kapps and Livewire. Their performance was full of energy as they performed their songs accompanied by a live band. With the live band killing, the lead vocalist raising spirits, and Kapps crying on the floor, the stand out track of the night was definitely Heroes. That hook is so infectious.
Here are some links to pics of the nights festivities:

Mickey Factz on Nahright

Mama, we made But we did make it onto one of the biggest hip-hop blogs on the internet. Go check out Nahright when you get the chance. They've recently featured our artist, Mickey Factz, on their blog for "I'm Sean (50 Shots More)." Go and leave a comment, letting them know what you think about Mickey and his music.

Supra Skytop Perfs

As Complex has noted, "By now every Tom, Dick and Mickey Factz are up on the release of the 14ks." Well if you aren't, chances are they're already gone. I'm such a meanie aren't I. If Complex can be Obvious about their wit, so can I.
