Vote For Mickey: MTVu The Freshmen

I told you we're going to get you guys ready for the elections this coming November. In this installment of Vote For Mickey, he's been selected to be a part of this weeks, The Freshmen. Here's how it works. 1 of 5 videos that YOU the viewers decide will get added to their playlist for the week. To go and vote, click HERE. Watch below to see what this week's Freshmen had to say about Mickey Factz ft. The Cool Kids - Rockin N Rollin (Remix) video. Let us know what you think.

My opinion, Mallory is hilarious for the leecher comment. Clearly she hasn't watched enough hip-hop videos, because she would know that the featured artist has been a staple in the music before she was born...but I digress...lol

Mickey Factz @ Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival

I remember when we went to BHF 2 years ago for the first time and we interviewed Lupe Fiasco for Laced Magazine. Lupe was a new artist making waves in the industry, sharing the stage with some legendary acts. I remember us saying to ourselves then, that we'd get Mickey on that stage. Now just 2 years later we've made true on our promise. This year is even more special because Mickey will be sharing the same stage with KRS-One, who is the headliner for the event. With Mickey being from the BX boro, that means even more because it's a symbolic passing of the torch between the Teacher and the Student. This Saturday, July 12th is going to be a special afternoon. You're not going to want to miss a classic moment in hip-hop history as the Past and the Future grace the stage.

Overdose On Life (Part 3) with Mickey Factz

I'm Sean

Words from Mickey:

As some of you may or may not know, Sean Bell of Queens, NY was murdered senselessly by 3 undercover police officers [on November of 2006]. Today the case that was supposed to send these cops to jail were acquitted on ALL charges. So basically, the justice system is not labeling discharging 50 shots as a crime, but as a procedure. Which means that every minority walking the streets of America is liable to get pummeled by a barrage of bullets. Me being an artist, I wrote this song in January 2007 and it is clearly as relevant as it was then as it is now. I ask people to listen to the song and pass it along as a testament to the death of Sean Bell. May he rest in peace and condolences go out to his family and friends.

Thank You

Video: Speak On Hip-Hop, New York Hip-Hop

It sounds like somebody has been reading Mickey's bio and running with certain statements in regards to NY Hip-Hop, i.e. "Why bring it back, when I can move it forward," but I digress. What I really do appreciate though is that this dialogue is being conducted and expressed, whether it be from an artist like Mickey Factz or Maino as well as from OGs such as Ed Lover and Uncle Ralph McDaniels. To see folks aligning themselves to support the people and culture of where they are from is what leads to an areas growth. We as a hip-hop community on all levels have a social responsibility to support the growth of our children, our artists, and those vehicles that are in place to move the culture forward, whether you be from NY, LA, ATL, the CHI or what have you. But always remember don't shit where you sleep. So stop shitting on YOUR children and YOUR artists, support them and you'll be rewarded. Respect.

Check out the videos below.

Leak #16: The Understanding ft. Malcolm X

16 weeks.... 16 songs.... You gotta love it

Ever since I've been seen in the public eye, people have been quick to classify me as something I'm not. When in reality I grew up on the same influences y'all have. So I decided to vent and give people an understanding of who I am.

So with the help of Malcolm X and GFCnewyork's own Precize on the beat, I touch base on a variety of topics that's been bothering me. (Previous music style, racism, politcs, etc.)

With that being said, the track is available for download below:

Leak #16: Mickey Factz ft. Malcolm X - The Understanding
Next week will conclude the first volume of the Leak Series. We will combine all the songs together as well as add youtube links and pics for download.
