"Where My Soldiers Is At"

Greatest Hip-Hop Video of All Time: Victory, Puff Daddy ft. The Notorious B.I.G. & Busta Rhymes off of "No Way Out"

It was practically a movie...Years ahead of it's time [1997]. They still don't make hip-hop videos like this (Sorry Kanye, "
Stronger" can't touch this.)

The song is classic...Diddy even had quotables (
You ain't gotta like me/Your just mad cuz I tell it how it is, and you tell it how it might be.)

If you didn't know, now you know...peep game

Billy G.O.A.T

So yeah, I had to post this because a colleague of mine and I, are going back and forth on this issue, LL Cool J vs. Jay-Z. We don't know if it's actually going to go down, but to me personally I'm like just drop the track if it's going to be all that. I'm tired of the set-ups, the online videos, etc. hyping up a track and/or battle and then when you hear it, you're disappointed. To me what Jay said on Forbes Billion Dollar remix of I Get Money, was a clever line and something that needed to be said. I believe he looks at himself as being the Greatest of All Time, and that he's working on his way to becoming a certified billionaire, hence Billy Goat.

“I’m already the Goat, next stop, the billy…” - Jay-Z, I Get Money (Forbes Billion Dollar rmx)

Angie Phones Jay-Z to Discuss LL Cool J
Now, LL Cool Js vice may be that it's a slight jab at him since everybody and their mothers know that LL refers to himself as the Greatest of All Time. His vice may be that Jay is the head of a label that he helped build. His vice may be that he didn't get the label support that any artist would expect when releasing his last album. His vice may be some long history he's had with Jay, that's behind the scene that we'll never know the whole truths about. Or it may be all of the above. Whatever it is, if you're going to diss/battle him, just drop the track. I love you my man, but if this track is wack, I'm going to be extremely tight. And I think hip-hop should be to, especially New York hip-hop. Two legends going at each other because their proud, and then not putting up a legendary battle, will be a step backwards to me personally.

Same thing goes for you Jay. My man I love you. Personally I think you have the right to call yourself the G.O.A.T., because I think that you are. But if you decide to go at my man LL Cool J, please refrain from the subliminals, go straight at him. Please refrain from it being wack for the same reasons, I entailed above. And please refrain from becoming Michael Jordan after the 6th championship, because word is you are already on the road there...smh.

Peace

Who's the King of New York???

Now that the Kanye vs. 50 Cent battle is done with and the winner announced, lets proceed to the Heavyweight fight. Jay-Z has announced that he'll be releasing a new album, slated to be released on Nov. 6th. It is a concept album titled "American Gangster" inspired by the soon to be released film of the same name starring, Denzel Washington who plays Frank Lucas, an early 1970s Harlem Heroin Kingpin.

The challenger in this fight of epic proportions is Dame Dash and his soon to be released documentary, "Mr. Untouchable." Another film about a druglord, but this time it's Harlem's own Nicky Barnes.

Ah, this has controversy, competition, and money in the bank written all over it. Who do you think is going to win?

Shout outs to Miss Info for shedding light on this.

Check out the artwork above for the films. Coincidence??? I think not.

Below are the trailers to the film.

Stadium Status

This is phenomenal...this is why MTV was suppose to give him the main stage. This is just inspiring...

G-Unit + Dipset = Classic

Here we go. '07 is full of classic moments in hip-hop and here we go with another one. Jim Jones & Juelz Santana rock the stage with 50 Cent and the rest of G-Unit last night at the Hammerstein Ballroom. This is a prime example how 2 camps can put away their differences, and go for the bigger picture. A great moment for New York hip-hop. Let this be the beginning in unity for New York hip-hop.

Jena Six

GFCnewyork blog is a cultural forum and any and everything involving our culture will always have an outlet to be addressed and expressed here. I'd like to thank artists who address civil and social issues not only in their music but in the real world. In this instance, I commend Mos Def for being vocal about the injustice facing a group of black students in Jena, Louisiana who are being charged with attempted murder for beating up a white student that was taunting them with racial slurs. These kids are facing sentences of 20 to100 years in prison, for basically wanting the free will to sit under a tree. Some people within the culture are getting riled up due to the lack of media attention on the case, as well as the absence of key voices within the culture who are not addressing or informing the public of the matter.

We over here, are going to play our part in informing the public of the matter. I don't think boycotting hip-hop records is a rationale reaction to that matter. That is a misguided application of your frustrations. I believe this is an issue for all people, not only black. If the Vote or Die campaign from the last election can be as impactful as it was, then we all know the voice of hip-hop can and will be heard.

People please take the time to inform yourself on the issue, Jena Six, and sign the PETITION. A large number of the American population should be affected by this issue and want change, so the petition should reflect that. If you want to further contribute your time, finance or both to the matter feel free to email info@freethejena6.org
