Levi's Lawsuits Coverage in New York Times

Levi's copyright infringement lawsuits make the New York Times. The article is an "OK" read, since I'm more concerned with the international denim brands that are affected by the suit, and not the domestic brands like Von Dutch and Rock & Republic which this article seems to focus more on. Click HERE to read the story.

Mickey Factz - I'm Sean (50 Shots More)

Mickey Factz is at it again, leaking another introspective track for the people. For all those that know about the wrongful death of Sean Bell, it's another tragic scenario that has continually plagued our communities till this day. The epidemic that is racial profiling and the excessive/misappropriated use of force by the NYPD. In the song, Mickey Factz revisits the events of that night through the eyes of Sean Bell, or the way he figures Sean would've seen it. The track really makes you take a sit back and realize that Sean Bell's fate, could've been the fate of anyone of us. And that we must continue to protest and ask for reformation and justice within the police department.

"This song goes out to all the friends and family of Sean Bell, and to all those that lost a friend/s or family member/s from the bullets and/or force of those that are "allegedly" suppose to protect us."

Levi's Pulling the Seams On Japanese Denim

Ohh how the cookie has crumbled. Japanese denim, specifically Japanese "repro" denim companies and those distributing and selling the products of are being sued by Levi's for trademark infringement. Effective this past Friday, January 19th, brands such as Studio D’Artisan, Iron Heart, Toyo/Sugarcane, Oni (BS United), and Samurai have been pulled from store shelves.

I'm sure denim advocates out here in the states are finding them-selves on the edge feeling very blue and green (those who are clever know what I mean). The denim market currently will be in a frenzy for some time. The questions that will arise are:

1. How will the new designs from Japanese "repro" denim companies, reflect the classic aesthetics of LVC denim without infringing upon their intellectual property rights?

2. Will the new designs meet the standards of the retailers and consumers that were previously stocking and buying their products?

3. How will this affect the business of boutique shops that structured their business model on this niche market product?

4. How intense will the post-market effects contribute to an upsurge in re-selling and/or black market Japanese "repro" denim being produced?

For more info on the case check out Foosh

Lemar & Dauley Fall/Winter '06

A mixture of street & sport is how they describe their brand, and when you look at the fall/winter '06 collection you understand why. Back to serve the public, Lemar & Dauley's current collection draws inspiration from A Rebel's Racket, Skybox Trading Cards, Reaganomics, Nintendo, and more. By invoking the nostalgia of these iconic personalities of the late 80s and early 90s throughout the collection, you can see L&D is trying to inform street culture/street wear of a time when legends were bred and that even when they're no longer here, their legacy will never die. Serve to Preserve, "Game, Set, Match."

Lemar & Dauley Blesses Kid Robot

The new Kid Robot Clothing Collection launched in all Kid Robot stores today. And from my sources, I've heard the whole collection has sold out in New York City store already. Slow and steady definitely doesn't win this race. A part of the collection to drop this Fall, were two pieces that were designed by our GFC brothers over at Lemar & Dauley. Check the pieces out below, to check out the rest of the Kid Robot Clothing collection, click HERE

Dr. Romanelli x Bodega = Jordan "Reconstruct" Line

Back at it again is Dr. Romanelli with Bodega, the illest store on this side of the Mississippi...lol (I just wanted to say that). The Bodega crew went on a treasure hunt looking for vintage Jordan pieces. They then submitted their findings to Dr. Romanelli to bring them to life. With that being done, the Jordan Collection is one of the freshest "Reconstruct" lines thus far. The the collection of jackets will drop exclusively at the Boston store. Knowing anything Jordan is a sellout, those who are able to get their hands on one or several of these pieces is a lucky b@5t@rd.

Let's Have A Roast

Blogging now a days is as original as starting your own t-shirt line. Yea, it's a great way for folks to stay up to date with the "goings-on," but it seems that every blog is covering the same news, brands, and people. Then comes along a new blog site by the name of Don't Believe The Hypebeast that covers the same news and issues as many hundreds of blogs, but from a new and different perspective...They're roasting the current state street-wear and culture.

Don’t Believe the Hypebeast is a satirical look at the current state
of “streetwear.”

This is the commentary/observations of a few fashion forward people
who were once impressed with an innovative and dynamic niche market
full of talented designers/brands who’ve since thrown creativity to
the wind and produced a lackluster assortment of product that borrows
(i.e. steals) from more established cultural entities.

After seeing the vast array of boring and predominantly overpriced
“streetwear” that has flooded the market in the last year, we decided
to give our thoughts regarding the recycled product and circle-jerk
mentality that continues to perpetuate it.

If you/your brand get offended by anything you read here, then your
all over print hoodie and quickstrike Dunks are probably too tight.

Oh boy, I wish I had of thought about this myself; this blog is genius. It's well-executed and hilarious. This is Don't Believe The Hypebeast is definitely bookmark worthy blog.

HP says "Yezzir"

After the success of the Shaun White and Jay-Z commercials that are apart of "The Computer Is Personal Again" campaign, Hewlett-Packard has given Pharrell Williams the greenlight. The HNIC, Head N*E*R*D In Charge, addition to the campaign continues his chain of high-profile endorsement offerings. He's recently also been tapped to appear in Louis Vuitton's new fall 2006 and winter 2007 ad campaigns. Same as all the previous commercials that are apart of this campaign, Pharrell explains how he makes use of his personal computer. Check out the video HERE. Also check for Pharrell's debut solo album, In My Mind, which is out in stores today.

The Deffest in NYC

According to the folks at TrainerSpotter being a Saint in NYC is definitely a bad thing. That's bad meaning good (haha). They've designed a tee inspired by Saint of GFC New York and an 80's Wendy O tour t shirt. Wendy O was the lead singer with the Plasmatics, a NY punk band. With a limited production run of 12, Saint will be handing the tees to the Deffest Baddest disciples to walk the streets of NYC. If you receive one of the tees you know you must be doing something right. Pardon me, you must be doing several things right. Check for Saint soon, before all the tees are gone.

Mickey Factz 'Extravaganza' Video Shoot

This weekend was a hot and grueling one, but damn we had a great time. Our goal was to give the public a glimpse into this GFC New York lifestyle. With our artist, Mickey Factz being the voice of this lifestyle, we decided to put into motion the video production of his spring/summer anthem 'Extravaganza'. It was a long 3-day shoot that took place throughout NYC. Even though there were a few challenges in making this event happen as planned, it still went off to be a great success. As Mickey would say, "There aren't any brick walls in the clouds." We'd like to take the time out and thank all of our family and friends who came through and supported us in making this happen. DesignAttic, Inc, Laced Magazine, Lemar & Dauley, The Brooklyn Circus, LaVie Clothing, Mad Ciphas, Dream Cloth, The Maddesigner, A Game Entertainment, Belchez, Street Cosignor, Yoly aka The Talk of New York, Mello Yellow, Smoke Dza, Hasan Insane, K-Hustle, K-Holla and more. Yeah, we have a big family. Video will be posted in the near future, so keep checking in. Here are some pics from the shoot.
